Cake, Zoo, Cake, Fishing, Cake, Fireworks and Some Cake

Whoa! Where to begin. We have just returned home from a week away visiting family in Ohio along with a short stint in Indiana. I'm pooped. So much to report!

First we stopped by to visit our good friends Adam and Kristen in Wapakoneta and their new little baby girl Roslin. Isn't she cute!?!?!

Then G & GG threw me a birthday party including, get this, cake.

As if that weren't enough, we went to the Cincinnati Zoo! Mommy talks about it all the time so I had to see what all the fuss was about. She's totally right. It's incredible!

Afterwards we ventured on to the Knueven Family reunion where I got to meet my cousin Lilly's new puppy followed by my first big screen movie in Grandpa's "man room"...

And that was just the first two days! Then we drove to Brown County, Indiana where we stayed in G & GG's newest vacation cabin. It was BEAUTIFUL! Mommy caught her first fish in years in the 3 acre lake on the propery (before any of the men did) and I continued to eat cake. If ever you want a wonderful getaway please consider visiting one of my G & GGs cabins! Here is a link to their site if you want to check it out! http://www.awesomebrowncountycabins.com/

On Wednesday we drove to Dayton and spent the remainder of the week at Yia Yia's house. We went to Young's Dairy Farm for homeade ice cream and petting zoo. I had so much fun with my cousins Dorian, Demitra & Blake.

On the 4th of July we had a cookout and massive loud fireworks which I call "popcorn". I was not fond. At all. Not even a little bit. They are scary and loud. I thought Theo George was the one setting them off so all night and the next morning I kept saying "popcorn. george did it" over and over again. Cousin Demi dressed up like a ballerina and did lots of twirls for me. Oh, and did I mention that Yia Yia got me a cake and everyone sang happy birthday to me again? Mommy says no sweets for a very long time (or at least until my real birthday).

Overall...a WONDERFUL trip!!!

1st 2nd Birthday!

This weekend I had my first 2nd birthday celebration with my playgroup. Ironically we were all born in either July or August but alas, June was the only month we could find a date when everyone could be there (we are women on the go after all). IT. WAS. SO. MUCH. FUN! All I cared about was cake. I love cake. I talk about cake almost every day. If you ask me what I want for my birthday I will tell you it is cake. And I got cake. Yippee! We are so very lucky to have such a wonderful group of friends, both big and little : )

Congratulations Cousin Blake!

This weekend we traveled down to Dayton to celebrate cousin Blake's high school graduation. Mommy says this makes her feel really old seeing as Blake was 6 when mommy and daddy started dating. EEK! Yia Yia went all out and the party was nearly a wedding! Congrats Blakie!

SALE!!!

G & GG came to visit me this past weekend (am I popular or what!) and as always we had all sorts of fun. We garage saled (which I love by the way and now yell "SALE" everytime I see one), ate lots of yummy food & ice cream, went on walks and took a trip to the fair. All good fun!

Lilly Visits!

My cousin Lilly came to visit over the holiday weekend. She's almost exactly 1 year younger then me so I taught her a lot of big girl things. Like how to not eat well at meals (she didn't listen), how to run so fast you fall and skin your knees, how to ride in a wagon like you are a queen...etc. We had so much fun together! Thanks for visiting Lilly, Lisa & Justin!

Word Up

Been meaning to do this post for quite some time and am finally taking the time to sit down and sift through my swiss cheese brain to list some of my favorite Sophia-isms. I love how toddlers have their own language. I'm almost sad to think she'll someday pronounce words correctly! As I use this blog as a journal of her life to be saved (printed) and reflected back upon, I wanted to make sure we didn't forget these (see above: swiss cheese brain).

Flodgey = Flowers
Manana = Banana
"ABDD" = ABCD and also what she says everytime she see's a written word.
Echo = Luke (although this has recently turned into lukey)
Sides = Outside
How Bout That = She says this often. Today after seeing a cat on a walk she exclaimed,
"how bout that kitty!"
Woodgie = Woobie (decidedly better then the former produnciation- "woodie")
Watey = Water
Sim = Swim

Right now she has a mad love of turtles and peacocks and loves to get the mail out of the mailbox.. "MEAL" she calls it. She loves to say her name as well as everyone else's. Whenever I'm yelling for Taki from a different floor she starts yelling too..."TAKI". Hysterical. She's really grasping the idea of humor and what is funny. So she loves to say "funny!" and giggle. We're a bit alarmed that she readily points out anything messy and says "mess". Possible neat-freak or simply mocking mom? Every morning she points to my cup and says "coffee". She's no dummy. She repeats most anything now and has a pretty large vocabulary. Mostly though, she's just the coolest, most wonderful little person on the planet!

Sun+Sand+Swimming=SOOOOO Wonderful!

We just got back from a week in sunny Hilton Head Island, SC. It was incredible. We did absolutely nothing. Like I said, it was incredible. Mostly we just played in the sand, swam, napped, ate yummy food and enjoyed the company of friends (Ailey and her family were also vacationing in Hilton Head!). Perfect. As expected mom took a million photos. Here are a few...

First day at the beach

Cook out

Swimming at Ailey's pool

Mama painted my piggies for the first time in honor of vacation!

Dinner out with the Kenny & Tarachas families!

Crabby. (I'm learning that I have to trick this kid to get her to look at the camera-hence the 200 photos of the top of her head. She hates it and just starts yelling NO NO NO NO when I pull it out.)

Me and my Ailey Bean

Someone (mom) thought it was a good idea to bring a beach ball to the beach. Duh, right? WRONG. VERY, VERY WRONG. Spent a good part of an hour chasing it down the beach while onlookers got a nice display of all my jiggly-bits.

Dinner at our favorite: Steamers!

Wait? I'm allowed to eat that? So, I'm eating Mickey, huh? Not sure how I feel about that.

Feeling All Warm and Sparkly Inside

I feel the need to scream from the rooftops...THE SUN HAS FINALLY ARRIVED! And I thought this day would never come. Last week I was wearing footed fleece jammies + fleece sleep sack + blanket. Tonight, I am wearing thin cotton jammies with no socks and I'm still all sweaty. Mother nature must have pms. How else do you explain such mood swings? Global warming? Nah, my money's on pms or perhaps menopause. That's it! Menopause! She must have had a hot flash last week.

Pictures For Daddy

Mamma took me to get my pictures taken in the dress daddy got me for my 1st birthday to give to him on his birthday (cosmic isn't it?). I had to stand on a red dot, stay still and smile....all at once. HA!

Happy Greekster

This past weekend we celebrated Greek Easter, or commonly referred to as Greekster, at Yia Yia's house. It was great to see all of the family and hang out with my cousins. Unfortunately the weather was poor and on top of it, I was under the weather, how's that for a doozy. Despite wearing 3 fancy dresses over the course of the weekend, mom barely got any pictures that weren't of my coughing or wiping my nose. Here are a few that turned out okay.

Playgroup Easter Party

Thursday evening all my friends came over for a Easter celebration. We hunted for eggs, made bunny ears and ate yummy treats. It was a blast. And as if all of that wasn't good enough, all of our daddies were able to join us! I can't believe we're all going to be turning 2 in a few short months. Where has the time gone?!?!

I Got My Hair Did...

It was decided that the professionals needed to be called in so I had my first official haircut at the salon (instead of mom's dull scissors hacking away at the back while I'm in the tubby). I was as quiet as a mouse and as confused/concerned/stunned as... well, as a toddler getting their first haircut I guess. Mom and dad were so impressed at how good I was. Not a peep. I was too busy checking out the weirdo next to me sitting under an alien cone that made lots of noise. He had this big old black cape on and was reading about stars....and not the kind with 5 points. Unnerving.

Before...(drinking my "watey" from a little big girl mug)

Scrambled or Over Easy?

And to think Mom doubted my egg hunting skills. She figured I wouldn't know what to do since we hadn't practiced hunting for eggs and putting them in stuffed bunny baskets (don't know what that's all about) but I put her fears to rest. There were millions of eggs and candy and yet the whole thing was over in a matter of minutes...or maybe even minute. I could have cared less that mom was there or not, I ran out and started stuffing my basket. And I have no shame, I was willing to steal from other kids baskets too. I can't wait to go on my next egg hunt. My skills should be fully developed by then!

Here are a few pictures of me and my friends Ailey & Ashlyn...

Two Bumps Don't Make A Right

You would think we ran head first into each other seeing as our bumps are nearly identical, but no, we managed to bump at the same time all on our own. Just met up for a bump debriefing and documented the evidence.

Clarification

Everyone knows that toddlers have their own unique pronunciation of words. Most of which sound like gibberish to outsiders but make perfect sense to their parents. However, there a few that baffle even those of us seasoned in toddlerglish. Alas, we have finally after months figured out one of them.

Butt Cheese

I swear to you that is exactly what it sounds like and she says it all the time. Usually when at the table or in the kitchen. I had that as a hint but it remained a big question mark. So here you have it people.

Butt Cheese = Bite

No joke. Bite. Soph is infamous for adding letters on to the end of words like "book" is "booka" and "dad" is "dadin". I think she's actually saying "bitey" which is why it sounds like butt cheese.

I can't tell you how relieved I am.

And as a side note. She's finally started asking for her woobie by name. Only thing is that she pronounces it "woodie" and in all my matureness I can't help but giggle each and every time.

Waiting for the garbage truck this morning. The nice man honks his horn for us!
As you can see, Luke is trying to escape while I look concerned. I made him pinky swear not to involve me in his shennanigans. (thankgoodness for screen door locks!)

Mono-kini Madness!

Too bad we couldn't get a better picture but behold the mono-kini. We found it was a bit big still as daddy had to keep tugging the straps up. We figure she's still a bit young to get beads thrown at her.

Two Peas In A Pod...Er, Pool

Swim class, week 2. Don't be too surprised if you see a picture every week of me at swim class. It's not so much the swimming part, but the swim attire. My mom is a woman obsessed. I believe she already has 5 swimsuits for me this year. Watch out, rumor is she's breaking out the mono-kini next week.

The dads were otherwise engaged this week so it was just Luke and I with our mommies. They put us in the same shower together (!!!) after class. As you can see, we were thrilled.

Fishy Fishy

1st swim class of the year. LOVE the new class. The water is as warm as my tubby. Still not too fond of the dunking under water exercise (do you really think blowing in my face before you submerge my head is going to trick me and make me not hate you for doing it?) but otherwise it was all kinds of fun!

GG

GG came to visit me again this past weekend! Yay! I miss her so much already. Come back soon, GG!

Behold - The Princess Throne Has Arrived

In all it's pink glory. Mom is devastated by this recent development and the pediatrician's suggestion to introduce me to the potty and begin the first steps of potty training. In fact she's a bit weak in the knees just thinking about it.

So far I've gone in the potty twice. This has elicited a bizarre and frightening parade of screaming and hugging by the big people of the house. It's okay I guess. I prefer to take the white thingy out and stand in the hole. I know, like totally creative, right?

Mommy singing me the "bye bye pee pee" song. It's only fair. If I have to sit on cold, hard plastic the least she can do is put on a show for me.

I love my doggie so much that I cook for him...

Feed him letters to make him smart...

I always make sure he gets exercise and strength training...

And last but certainly not least, I make sure he always looks as pretty as I do...

Sick Sucks

RSV 2009 has hit the Karras house. Yippee! : (
Sophia is such a trooper. I couldn't be more proud of her. We were way more freaked out about her breathing treatments then she was. In fact, she was calm, collected and likely irritated that her momma was so proud she had to run for the camera to document her grown-up-ness. The good news is she seems to be on the mend and I expect tomorrow she'll be running around with underwear on her head as usual.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's day started out great...a little breakfast, a little dress up, a little snow gazing. Then it went horribly wrong....a little coughing, a little snot, a little fever : ( At least I had mommy and daddy to snuggle with me and love on me. After all, isn't that what Valentine's day is really about?

Valentine's Day Fun!

Yesterday I invited all of my friends over to celebrate Valentine's Day. Mom decorated the house with a million "heart-ins" (soph's word for heart) and made some heart shaped mac-n-cheese and heart shaped pizzas. There was a lot of love in the house. Luci, Liliana, Addison, Ailey, Ashlyn, Kelsey & Tallulah all came over. Poor Luke was the only boy. He was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the pink and hair pretties so he hung out by the door and shouted CAR! CAR! CAR! to all the cars outside. I think it was his way of protesting the love fest and affirming his boy-ness. Anyhow, we ate our festive dinner, made a craft for our daddies, ate cupcakes and exchanged valentine's. It was fantastic. Mom is still a bit lightheaded from ingesting a record breaking number of conversation hearts but no need to worry, I'm sure she'll rally and polish off the remainder today.
Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!!!

Snow Night & Preview of Sophia, Age 16

Last night right as it started to get dark we decided to take a quick dip in the snow. Should have gotten our acts together sooner in the day but twilight snow play turned out to be quite fun. Sophia's favorite activity was eating the snow.

Upon returning inside she threw the biggest tantrum ever (because she didn't want to come inside), then ignored us and "called/texted" her friends to bitch about how uncool and mean her parents are. Behold, Sophia, age 16...

Luke's 1st Birthday

Last Sunday Luke turned 1! How fast the year has gone by. We've had SO much fun growing up together. Happy Birthday Luke!!!

Whispering Sweet Nothings In My Ear

Luke: "Ok, here's what we do. When she turns around, look all cute and stuff and then when she least expects it we'll jump up, stand on the chair and flip it over."

Sophia: "Don't you think it might hurt? I think she said we should only sit in the chair. I don't know if we should go through with this Luke."

Moral of the story.... Keep an eye on these two. He's gotten rather convincing of late and she's blinded by his charm.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

We had a wonderful trip down to Ohio for the holidays and managed to take about 100 too many photos. Surprise, surprise. I'll spare you the 399 photos of wrapping paper flying every which way and just share the highlights. Thank you to all who helped make it such a great holiday. We wish you a Happy New Year & can't wait to see you again soon!

Grand Theft Larceny

I don't think there is a spot in Sophia's baby book for this one. 1st word, 1st haircut, 1st steps...yes....1st act of criminal theft...nope. I had an ugly feeling this was going to happen sooner or later based on her klepto ways but alas, the day has come. She nabbed two of these little fellows unbeknownst to myself or "GG" while shopping yesterday. The guilt she feels is such that she's currently laying on the floor stuffing her sock into a plastic cup. Misery, I tell you.

Also known as, the launch of "Dec. 08 Cold" : ) We shared some good laughs, great food and as always, lots of snot.
As you can see, half of the guest list got the red-dress-attire invitation and the rest of us just got the come-as-you-are invite.

Last weekend my newest boy friend (not boyfriend, by the way-don't freak dad) came to visit with his parents Jackie & Josh. It was so fun to visit with them and have them stay with us. I liked Fletcher a whole lot. I'm excited for him to be able to play with me once he figures out that whole supporting of the head thing. Isn't he cute?

Friends, Santa & Jello!

Ailey and me got to go see Santa last week! It was SO fun! Mom, dad, Auntie Paula and Uncle Blake took us to the DAC to see Santa and have a wonderful dinner. Turns out that Santa does not bite. In fact he gave A and me stuffed reindeers for being so brave. Then at dinner, we got pizza, carrot sticks and jello. It was like the best night of my life.

(oh, and I hear we went to see santa last year at the DAC too but we didn't even know we had hands at the time, much less who santa was so we'll just say this is the first time)

I Blame Betty Crocker

I have never enjoyed a cookbook so much in my life. Naturally my enjoyment had nothing to do with cooking. This is a page I scanned in from the famed "Old School" (and yes that is the official name of course : ) Betty Crocker cookbook that came from my Grandma. You'll have to click on it to really read it. Trust me, it's worth it.

My personal favorite is the one on the left side, 3 down. Just remember, if you feel tired lay down on the floor for a bit. No need to take off your apron or heels.

Coming in at a close second would be the one right above it. I blame most women's life problems on this one. Who knew Betty was the one to start it all. "You're mind can accomplish things while your hands are busy". In other words, multi-task. And I wonder why I end up at the checkout of the grocery store with nothing from my list in the basket because my cell phone is glued to my ear or perhaps my mind has started planning "family recreation, the garden, etc. ".

And don't forget ladies... "Notice humorous and interesting incidents to relate at dinnertime". I've got that one down. Often I report the texture and or frequency of our daughters poo. That's interesting right? Or is that not what she had in mind? Hmmm.....

Gobble Gobble

What a fabulous Turkey Day(s)! Mom, Dad & I drove down to Cincinnati to celebrate Thanksgiving and I got to spend time with Grandma, Grandpa, Yia Yia, Theo George, Theo Bill and lots of other family. Despite avoiding every single nap while away, I was in great spirits the whole time! We got to do all kinds of fun stuff, like:

Eating my first Oreo cookie.
Playing silly games with Grandma.

Visiting with my Aunt Jessica.

Getting bundled up for the Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Seeing Santa's reindeer.

Biting the head off of my very first gingerbread man.

oohing and aahing at all the beautiful lights.
Visiting with my cousin Lilly.
We did SO much more but didn't manage to capture it all in photos : ( What a great holiday!

Hysterical

Tonight I crossed the line. That very fine line between finding humor in parenting and being cruel. I'll set the scene for you...

I got Sophia ready for bed-jammies, woobie, brushed the teeth, etc. and then realized I had forgotten the bottle she takes before bed. I left her to play in her room while I ran down to get the bottle. When I ran back up the stairs and turned the corner I was surprised to see a laundry basket walking towards me. Somehow Soph had turned her pop up laundry holder upside down over her head and was trapped inside. She was walking around aimlessly with clothes drapped all around her. As she walked toward the gate and saw me hysterically laughing she started to whimper. So I did as any self-respecting mother would do and ran for the camera.
Shame on me.

Don't Take Candy from Strangers?

Funny, because I think that's exactly what we did. And I can attest to the fact that my mommy has already consumed quite a bit of said candy. Despite my really bad mood at the beginning of the evening, I ended up having a pretty good time and made it to quite a few houses with Luke and his cousins Josie & Jack!

We also took a day trip up to Frankenmuth with my Grandpa and Grandma on Saturday. To celebrate mom put in my very first piggies!

We had a yummy chicken dinner with accompaning life-sized chicken and went to an insanely large Christmas store that was, well, kinda scary.

6th Annual Karras Family Pumpkin Carving Party

This weekend everyone came over to my house dressed as animals. Seriously. There was a pig, turtle, duck, lamb, cow, butterfly and a ladybug. I'm not so sure I get this whole dress up thing since I didn't see any of the big people dressed as animals. However, I did get a sugar cookie with icing and sprinkles. Score 1 for Sophia!

This year there wasn't as much carving as in past years since the animals were running circles around their parents leaving little time for pumpkin artistry but we had lots of fun anyhow and still managed a good show of jack-o-lanterns at the end of the evening.

Thanks to everyone for celebrating Halloween with us!

Overheard...

Sitting in the waiting room at the dentist yesterday. Old, no make that REALLY old, man sitting across from me. Receptionist comes over to explain that he needs to have two teeth removed and that she can drive him home and pick him up again tomorrow to have them taken care of. Is that ok, she asks. He appears to have either not heard her or is sleeping. Then suddenly picks up his head and declares, "GOD DAMMIT!" Then looks at me and says, "Honey, stay young and pretty. I'm 102 and getting old stinks. DAMMIT, DAMMIT, DAMMIT!"

And that's what happens when you live to be 102. You get super grumpy and are allowed to say bad words at the dentist. Shoot, I'd be happy to still have teeth at 102.

A Bug's Life

This weekend me, mommy, daddy, Paula, Blake and my Godsister Ailey went to the Zoo for the annual Zoo Boo. The parents dressed us all up in silly costumes, loaded us in the wagon and pulled us around the zoo while they begged for candy from strangers. Weird. Anyhow, I scored some pretzels and new crayons out of the deal. I also got to eat a wonderful dinner (hot dogs and sweet-ter-tater fries) beforehand at my best buddy Ailey's house. Mommy says "compliments to the chef" about her big person food too : )

XV Months

You're never going to believe this but on Wednesday I turned 15 months! Seriously, it's true. Today I had my well-baby check up with Dr. Peltz. She says I'm right on track and doing good. Yay! And for the first time ever, I didn't cry so hard that I puked! Definitely something to jot down in the record books. Here are my recent stats:

Weight: 21 lbs. 2 oz (25th percentile)
Height: 31" (50th percentile)
Head: 17.25" (10th percentile)

Since I turned one I've learned lots of stuff. I love to walk and even run sometimes. I think jumping is super fun too. My favorite words are "cack er"(craker), "ssshhhoo" (shoes) and Dad-in (daddy). Still holding out on the "ma ma". If you ask me to say ma ma I will look you right in the eye and say "Dad-in" with the biggest smile. Stinker. I say lots of other stuff but no one knows what it means but me. I'm super-duper silly and I absolutely LOVE to dance. My new favorite talent is feeding myself (or at least trying).
