Today little Miss Sophia had her 1 month check-up and is tipping the scales at 8 pounds, 2 ounces! We also found out that she is 20 3/4 inches long. Either she shrunk in the last 7 days or the nurse that came to the house last week was just a tad off : ) Her new stats put her in the 20% for weight and 50% for height! At this rate she might be taller then her mom by age 3.
She's now laying on her play mat grunting. I'm about to join her. Laying down that is, not grunting.

40 Day Blessing

Today Sophia had her 40 day blessing where she was welcomed into the Greek Orthodox Church. She behaved beautifully. No tears (unless you count right before and right after) at all! This was a very special day for our family and we wanted to share some photos.
The bottom photo is of our friend Paula and her daughter Ailey. Ailey was born 5 days before Sophia. I was lucky to meet Paula in my Aqua Mom's swim class (and later, her husband Blake in child birth class). Turns out we attend the same church (among other bizarre similarities). Neither of us knew we were having girls and I'm thrilled that we can now share the joys of having a daughter.
Tomorrow is Sophia's 1 month appointment with the pediatrician. Her reflux is still pretty bad and we're not sure the medication is working : ( Hopefully she'll have some answers because we're having a tough time seeing our little girl hurt.

Tales from the Sleep Deprived
Last night Sophia was having one of her fussy episodes and wouldn't sleep. I put her on my chest to soothe her while Taki ran to get the pacifier, burp cloth, and other such items needed to pacify her. When he got back into bed he informed me that he was going to "rest his eyes". I told him to go to sleep and that there was no use in both of us being up but he insisted he was just going to rest his eyes. I've heard that one before.
Once Sophia calmed down and fell asleep I decided to try and put her back in her bassinet. This was about a half hour later and Taki was sound asleep. I put her down and she was instantly awake again. I was leaning over the bed trying to calm her when I feel Taki caressing my elbow. I thought he was just trying to offer support but was a bit curious why he was soothing my elbow. After a few minutes I hear him say, "Honey, her head feels cold to me".
You know you've had too little sleep when you confuse your baby's head with your wife's elbow.

Sans Stump and other news

Big day in the Karras house....I lost my cord. I know, gross, but still cause for celebration...no more sponge baths!!!
The nurse came on Friday to see how I'm doing. I now weigh 7lbs and am 19.5" long. I'm growing like a weed! Soon I'll be able to finally fit in my newborn clothes!
Garrick and Renee came to visit me this weekend and brought me this cool giraffe. It's bigger then me!!!

It's the Great Poop Charlie Brown
I can assure you little Miss Sophia will not be thrilled that we told the world about this but.... we all need at least one truly embarrassing story from childhood.
As some of you know, Sophia has had some digestive problems and the most recent development involves a bought of constipation. For those of you who have not had to deal with infant constipation, the poos are basically little hard rocks. About the size of a bouncy ball.
Thursday night I woke up (read: Soph woke me up) to change and feed her and discovered a bouncy ball. I didn't expect her to have one in the middle of the night and so I quickly pulled the diaper out from under her. Apparently when I did this the little ball rolled out into her pj's. I realized when I went to put the new diaper on that it had escaped. I quickly took her outfit off and scrunched it up so the poo ball wouldn't fall out. After I put her new clothes and diaper on I went to remove said poo ball from her old outfit so I could throw it away and wouldn't you know it was missing. GONE. No where to be found. I searched high and low. At this point I was somewhere caught between mortification and amusement at how absurd this was. I had to wake Taki up to assist me in the search and rescue operation. I was paranoid that it was stuck to the back of her head or somewhere in her new clothes. After much laughing we finally found the little rascal behind the changing table. I still can't figure out how it escaped. I really thought I had been pretty careful but obviously not careful enough. So there you have it. The case of the missing poo has been solved.
Needless to say there will not be a picture to go along with this post. I think I've embarrassed the kid enough.
