Thanks GG For the Make Up Set...I think...

Perhaps we can cross make-up artist off Sophia's possible future career path list. Just saying...

Pokey Pokey

Well, HELL. I've allowed my child to be marred for life. I swear to you that this didn't occur to me until after the fact.

I always thought 5 was a good age to get your ears pierced. My thinking: If you're old enough to sign up for the pain, then you're old enough to have them. I honestly didn't think she would go through with it. She has always loved looking through all the sparkly earrings in stores so we would talk about getting them pierced and what that meant. She always seemed leery about the whole idea so imagine my surprise when she jumped right up in the chair, held her breath, squeezed my hand and voila!

Kinda makes me want to puke. Then again, they are pretty sparkly and cute and I'm SO proud of her for being so incredibly brave!

Before: Confident

During: Brave

After: Proud!

Sophia Turns 5!!!

I remember my 5th birthday party pretty well so I knew this was the year that probably mattered more than any of the others. Sophia has been asking to have a "water party" in the backyard ever since Evi's birthday in March. Oh, and she wanted to invite EVERYONE under the sun : ) So, 21 kids later, face painting, pinata, a few water attractions and a LOT of heat we had ourselves a party! Ariel and Tinkerbell came to celebrate the big day with us too which was definitely the highlight for Soph!

I was definitely more emotional leading up to this birthday then I was on the actual day. Perhaps because of all of the activity or perhaps because the heat had fried my ability to process reality. I have a feeling that first day of Kindergarten in several weeks is going to be a doozy. In fact, I'm purposly not going sappy in this post because I don't think I can handle it.

We started the morning with cinnamon rolls and presents from mommy, daddy, GG & G... And of course the yearly dress that daddy picks out for the girls on their birthday.
 Setting up!
 Slip n' Slide!
Face painting on toddlers should be done in non-slobbering locations : )
 School friends!

HOT!

We have had a crazy hot summer so far and the girls have been enjoying lots of time outside....

Kool Aid For Sale!!! The girls, Luke and Wyatt made quite a bit of money selling kool aid, cookies & muffins one steamy evening.  You could hear their sales pitch blocks away : )

Night at the Karras "bike-in" or "walk-in" : )  Daddy rentend the Muppet movie, we popped some popcorn and all enjoyed a movie under the stars.

Sunbathing after a dip in the pool.

The real drive in to see The Lorax

Sophia's first (and possibly last as you might guess from her belly flop form) diving board jump. You will have to look close since I couldn't get there fast enough to get a better picture.

Two fisted cup-cake eating in the buff : ) GG has been in town a lot this summer (which is a big treat!) so there's been lots of baking going on!

4th of July celebration with the Donaldson/Desnoyer/Dimmer/Day's! So much fun!

Sprinklers

Apparently we shouldn't have bothered spending money on fun and cute kid sprinklers & pools and merely turned on the in-ground lawn sprinklers. Why they are scared of a flower that lightly trickles water or a beach ball that gently sprays out the top, but not being laser style shot by high powered sprinklers? I'll never understand. I believe this can be filed away in the mysterious kid files under "H" for "Huh?" or perhaps "F" for "Figures". Meanwhile, I'll just enjoy the joy on there cute little faces!

Snoozers

I'm not sure it matters how many bedrooms/beds we have as it seems this is the way they will end up regardless...

Preschool Graduation

Our little Sophia is officially a preschool graduate! How did this happen?!?!?! I cannot believe how much she's changed just since last year. We are so proud of her each and every day. She's kind, loving, helpful, silly, gentle and simply the most amazing gift a mama (or daddy!) could ask for. We love you our sweet Sophia and are so excited for you to start your next adventure in Kindergarten this fall. (well, kinda...sniff, sniff)

And a quick glimpse back at last year...

A Bit of Dazzle & A Lot of Mom Tears

Well, it is with much reserve that I write this post. Perhaps I would have just ignored the event altogether to save some face if it weren't for the fact that one of the girls might do something equally disgraceful as parents and need a story to make them feel better : )

Sophia's yearly dance recital was last weekend. I use the word "was" lightly because we were not actually in attendance of said recital. And why you might ask? Stage fright? Sickness? Oh no, no, we missed it because some mom lost her damn mind and thought the recital was at 4:30 instead of 3:30. Yep, that's right, my dear, sweet, darling daughter missed the half hour event she had been practicing for an entire year because her mom can't manage a calendar. Oh, the guilt. And the tears...the hours of tears. I should clarify that the tears were from her mother, not her.

The best thing to come from this experience is the knowledge that Sophia is as resilient and easy going as I always knew she was. She is still talking about her recital, as if it actually happened.  The flowers and few pictures we took with a couple of her friends in their costumes after the recital were enough to make the day special for her. Oh, and luckily she managed to ignore the weeping mess of a mother in the front seat of the car. Sheesh...

Luckily I did take video during the rehersal so we at least have the routine on tape...she's the second from the end on the left in the back row : )
